Representing both Indian nations and those who do business with them, Hughes Hubbard’s Native American practice is a national leader in the financing and development of gaming, resort, hotel, retail, entertainment and other projects for American Indian nations. Based in Los Angeles and New York City, we are at the forefront of American Indian law and business, and our attorneys have represented Indian nations and enterprises, financial institutions and others in some of the largest and most complex transactions in Indian Country.

Our Native American work for financial institutions includes the $230 million investment grade debt offering by the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians, the $85.5 million bridge loan by two hedge funds to the Snoqualmie Tribe and the $200 million River Rock Entertainment Authority offering by the Dry Creek Rancheria Band of Pomo Indians, as well as the groundbreaking $150 million Chumash Casino and Resort Enterprise offering by the Santa Ynez Band of Mission Indians, the first high yield debt offering by a California tribe. Our work for Indian nations includes over $650 million in tax-exempt, high yield and bank credit facility transactions for the Oneida Indian Nation of New York and representing the Navajo Nation on gaming matters. Our practice group includes the former General Counsel of the Oneida Nation, who is also a professor of American Indian law. Hughes Hubbard has also represented issuers and investment bankers in over $15 billion in non-Indian gaming debt and equity financings and projects in numerous gaming jurisdictions in the United States and internationally.

Hughes Hubbard has represented the National Congress of American Indians pro bono as amicus curiae in important sovereignty-related cases in the United States Supreme Court and the Ninth Circuit.
