Accounting Director

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE(S) OF POSITION

Direct the work of Operations, Trust, and International Accounting to ensure that excellent accounting services are provided to the donors, missionaries, departments, and auxiliary entities of the EFCA; and that financial reporting is accurate, timely, and compliant.

KEY RESULT AREAS

1. Monitor and review all general accounting to ensure the timely and accurate completion of financial activity. a) Communicate cash flow, financial statement or other concerns or information to the Senior VP, Finance and Operations. b) Monitor adherence to internal accounting controls. Advise the Senior VP, Finance and Operations of any exceptions or improvements needed in order to enhance segregation of duties and to safeguard assets of the EFCA and any related entities. c) Work with the Senior VP, Finance and Operations to ensure compliance with all pertinent accounting standards (GAAP) and practices (FASB's) and IRS rules and regulations for non-profit organizations. d) Monitor, improve and maintain the financial information systems of the EFCA. Serve as the principal liaison for Accounting & Finance with the Information Systems team.

2. Serve as the principal interface for EFCA audit preparation. a) Coordinate work with the pertinent Accounting & Finance staff to ensure a timely and efficient audit. b) Maintain favorable working relationships with CPAs and other professionals with whom the EFCA conducts business

3. Direct International Accounting Services.

4. Direct Trust Accounting Services.

5. Oversee the annual detail budget updating and distribution process. a) Perform/supervise any special projects or financial analysis. b) Advise the Senior VP, Finance and Operations of relevant financial matters noted in a proactive manner.

6. Oversee and coordinate accounting services provided to EFCA departments/entities. a) Provide in-house risk management services for missionary Medical Aid Plan, including unpaid and large claims analysis. b) Work with NextStep Resources (NSR) manager to ensure quality inventory control, including monthly reconciliation of inventory per GL and perpetual records, consulting on inventory input, sales, and cost of goods sold procedures, and year-end physical procedures. Perform year-end audit test counts and document for audit.

7. Other duties as assigned, including: a) Ensure the development and maintenance of complete procedures manuals for the various associates on the Operations Accounting Services Team (OAST). Monitor service levels for OAST to ensure excellent service. b) Provide leadership that contributes to the goals and mission statement of the Accounting & Finance Department and the EFCA International Office. Develop and maintain good inter-department and intra-department teamwork and unity. c) Develop and maintain each associate's skill level and cross training to ensure accurate and timely service for each responsibility. Appraise performance of each associate formally on an annual basis and informally on an on-going basis. d) Serve as back-up for certain duties of the Senior VP, Finance and Operations and for each direct report.

MINIMAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Current CPA credentials.
2. Five years accounting experience (non-profit, public, or private audit).
3. Five years accounting experience with non-profit organization having a budget equal to or greater than $5 million.
4. Five years experience leading a multi-level team as an accounting director or manager.
5. Five years experience preparing financial statements and interfacing with external auditors.
6. Intermediate competency with Excel.
7. Committed personal relationship with Jesus Christ

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

1. Demonstrate ability to lead by example and manage others effectively.
2. Perform on time employee evaluations that accurately reflect employee performance and any opportunities for improvement and/or development.
3. Provide direction to and be responsible for the work of: Trust Accounting Director, International Accounting Director, Financial Accountant, and Accounts Payable Associate.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Ability to spend more than 50% of work time seated, using a keyboard, and viewing computer screens. 2. Ability and willingness to travel overnight approximately 5% of the time to accomplish position objectives.
