Forthcoming Legislation on Grant Reporting Standards

January 10, 2018

Representatives Virginia Foxx (R-NC) and Jimmy Gomez (D-CA) will beintroducing the Grant Reporting Efficiency and Agreements Transparency (GREAT) Act in the coming weeks. The purpose of the GREAT Act is to automate the reporting process and reduce compliance costs for grantees. The Act proposes transforming the federal grant reporting from disconnected documents into open data by directing the executive branch to adopt a standardized data structure for the information grantees must report to agencies.

The proposed legislation directs the Director of the OMB and the Secretary of HHS to consult with stakeholders, including tribal governments, on the design of these data standards. NAFOA is compiling feedback to help establish these core standard data elements. Please e-mail Jennifer@nafoa.org by January 17, 2018 if you have any input that you would like to share.
