Senate Committee on Indian Affairs Oversight Hearing on Access to Capital

June 16, 2015

The Senate Committee on Indian Affairs has announced an oversight hearing to address the lack of effective access to capital programs available to Indian Country on Wednesday, June 17, 2015. NAFOA has been invited to serve as a witness at the oversight hearing.

The lack of effective capital programs can impact every tribal government at any stage of growth. NAFOA's testimony will identify barriers facing tribal governments when accessing capital and offer recommendations that will allow capital to flow into Indian Country. Recommendations include:

  • Increasing funding and support to existing capital programs that are working in Indian Country, including the Indian Loan Guarantee Program and the CDFI Program.
  • Creating far greater access to existing multi-million dollar programs, such as Low Income Housing Tax Credits, New Markets Tax Credits, Bond Guarantee Program, and the tax exempt debt market.
