We’re seeking a full-time Policy Specialist to join our remote team. The position plays a crucial role in advancing Tribal economies and strengthening Tribal finance through policy research, analysis, and advocacy at the federal level. The Policy Specialist conducts comprehensive research on federal policies affecting Tribal economies, analyzes proposed legislation and regulations, and assesses their potential impact on Tribal governments and enterprises.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze federal policies, legislation, and regulations impacting Tribal economic development, taxation, and sovereignty
- Develop policy briefs, position papers, and testimonies articulating NAFOA’s stance to Congress, federal agencies, and Tribal governments
- Assess proposed federal legislation and regulations affecting Tribal economies, providing impact analyses and recommendations
- Collaborate with partner organizations to track policy developments and advance shared objectives
- Support conference planning, board meetings, and Treasury Tribal Advisory Committee initiatives through the preparation of presentations and briefing materials
- Coordinate policy-focused educational events, including webinars and in-person sessions for Tribal leaders and staff
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy, Economics, Law, Political Science, or related field
- 3 years of experience in policy analysis, research, or a related field
- Strong understanding of federal Indian law and policy, Tribal sovereignty, and Tribal economies
- Excellent analytical and research skills with the ability to synthesize complex information
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
- Experienced writer for various audiences
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and policy research tools
Work Details
- Full-time (40 hours/week), Monday-Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm Eastern Time
- Remote position with travel required, must attend and support all NAFOA conferences
- Starting Annual Salary $65,000-$75,000, commensurate with experience
