Melanie Ann Benjamin serves as the NAFOA Board Secretary and was the Chief Executive/Tribal Chairwoman of Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe Indians where she was statutorily responsible for conducting external relations on the Band’s behalf with all other governments and political subdivisions. She was first elected to this position in 2000 and has been re-elected for five consecutive terms since.
 

Former Chief Benjamin earned her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Bemidji State University and her Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Minnesota Duluth. For all of the hard work and dedication to the American Indian community as a chief executive, board member, and tribal leader.
