2. NAFOA NEWS: ANNOUNCING THE 2024 NAFOA LEADERSHIP SUMMIT CLASS
| NAFOA is excited to introduce the ten Native American young professionals chosen to be part of the 2024 Leadership Summit Class! The NAFOA Leadership Summit offers young Native American professionals the opportunity to accelerate their professional development. Of the most competitive pool of applicants to date, NAFOA selected ten participants based on leadership experience and strong interest in finance, accounting, business, and tribal economic development policy. Each participant has demonstrated a commitment to the well-being and advancement of Indian Country. The sixth NAFOA Leadership Summit will take place at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel on Sunday, April 28, 2024. At the Summit, participants will be immersed in a full day of career development, business and economic development discussions, and networking. Following the Summit, they will attend the 42nd Annual NAFOA Conference. |
3. POLICY: UPCOMING KEY DATES FOR TREASURY AND IRS

4. TRAINING:
BASIC FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT/AUDIT PREPARATION
| April 9, 8:30 AM AKT – Apr 11, 3:30 PM AKT (Virtual) The Association of Alaska Housing Authorities (AAHA) will host a three (3) day training in Basic Financial Management & Audit Preparation for Small Tribes. Highlighting best practices to ensure that management and accounting of the Native American Housing Assistance and Self-Determination Act (NAHASDA) funds are being observed and practiced in compliance with the regulations. Participants will be given resources and tools that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD)/ Office of Native American Programs (ONAP) program recipients (Tribes and Tribally Designated Housing Entities) can employ to prepare and be “audit ready” for their annual audit of their Financial Statements and Single Audit. The training will include a review of applicable sections of the 2 CFR Part 200 Uniform Guidance on audit requirements, review of internal controls, expenditure compliance, financial record keeping, the latest OMB Compliance Supplement for the NAHASDA program, and Year-end closing processes. |
