3. POLICY: Deputy Treasury Secretary Faulkender Confirmed by Senate
Last week, the Senate voted to confirm Michael Faulkender of Maryland to be Deputy Secretary of the Treasury. In the previous Trump Administration, Dr. Faulkender served as Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for Economic Policy from 2019 to 2021, during which time the Office of Tribal and Native Affairs (OTNA) was created at the Treasury Department. Deputy Secretary Dr. Faulkender will be advising and assisting Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent in formulating and implementing policies and programs, including those essential to honoring the United States’ trust and treaty obligations to sovereign Tribal Nations.
During Dr. Faulkender’s confirmation hearing, he expressed support for Tribal priorities at the Department of the Treasury, highlighting his efforts to create the OTNA when questioned by Senator Tina Smith (D-MN):
“It was partially under my leadership that we recognized that an office focused on the unique issues of Tribes was a more appropriate organizational structure than what it was when I first entered.”
4. GRANT OPPORTUNITIES: Native Language Immersion Grant Program
The National Fund for Excellence in American Indian Education (The Fund) grant program is dedicated to improving academic outcomes, including through expanding access to Native Language instruction for students enrolled in BIE schools. To advance this mission, in partnership with the Bureau of Indian Education (BIE), the Fund is excited to announce the availability of $6,500,000 in grant funding for BIE-funded schools. These grants are aimed at enhancing existing language immersion programs or establishing new initiatives that broaden access to Native language instruction and improve academic outcomes. The Fund will award between six to twelve grants to support the expansion of language immersion instruction.

5. JOBS: Experienced Housing Director, Middletown Rancheria of Pomo Indians of CA
Middletown Rancheria Housing Director position will entail many facets of the day-to-day operations of the Tribe’s Housing Department and responsibilities will cover all aspects of the Tribal Operations, particularly pertaining to our accountability and decisions regarding housing issues, including hazardous and solid waste management, managing various grant requirements and implementing objectives set forth by the Tribe in Federal and/or State grants. This position will develop, implement and monitor housing strategies, policies and programs that promote sustainable development for our Tribal Community. Oversee, design, implement and report for housing projects and studies which pertain to the goals and objectives of the housing department and the Middletown Rancheria of Pomo Indians of California.
