1. LET’S TALK ABOUT TAX:
NAFOA to Attend the Affiliated Tribes of the Northwest Indians Annual Convention Oct 12th-16th
This week, NAFOA will attend the Affiliated Tribes of Northwest Indians (ATNI) Annual Convention at the Suquamish Clearwater Casino Resort. Executive Director Cory Blankenship, Second Vice President Celina Phair, Geoff Urbina of KeyBanc Capital Markets, and Telly Meier of Hobbs Strauss Dean Walker will discuss the Tribal Tax and Investment Reform Act of 2025 (S.2022). This bill was introduced by Senators Cortez Masto (D-NV) and Murkowski (R-AK) earlier this year to correct long-standing inequities in Federal Tax Law for Indian Tribal Governments.
NAFOA will lead a panel discussion in the convention’s morning general session on Tuesday, October 14th, and during the Taxation Committee Meeting the same afternoon. The panelists will be available to answer questions and provide additional resources about the bill.
2. COMMUNITY:
The Federal Government Will Transition Away from Paper Checks to Electronic Payments
Executive Order (EO) 14247 “Modernizing Payments To and From America’s Bank Account” transitions federal payments to electronic methods. Starting September 30, 2025, most federal payments that are currently made by paper check—including Social Security benefits and tax refunds—will be made electronically.
In order to promote public awareness of the Federal Government’s shift to secure electronic payments, the Department of the Treasury has created a new resource page related to EO 14247 at MyMoney.gov/FederalPayments. The new page features frequently asked questions about the EO, directions for signing up for electronic payments, and Federal agency contact information where payment recipients can learn more or get help.

4. SURVEY:
Evolving Economic Impacts of Administration Policies and Actions
In partnership with the Native American Contractors Association (NACA), The National Center for American Indian Enterprise Development is looking to hear your feedback on the Trump Administration’s policies, actions, and economic impacts on your Tribal Nation, business, or organization, and the Native community it serves.
The National Center and NACA will keep all survey respondents’ names and affiliations anonymous, and the data generated through this survey will directly inform the two organizations’ ongoing policy and funding advocacy efforts with the Administration and Congress.
A summary report also will be shared with survey respondents as well as tribal leaders across the country.

Director of Housing, Big Valley Band of Pomo Indians
Under policy direction of the CBDO Board of Commissioners, oversee the operations, functions, and administrative affairs of the Housing Authority. Represent the Board of Commissioners, policies and programs with employees, community organizations, and the general public. Prepare budget requests and make recommendations to the Board on final expenditure levels. Be responsible for proper administration of grant funding. Be responsible for development, maintenance, and improvement of Housing Authority properties and services; and do related work as required. Responsible for the overall management and development of housing programs utilizing the Native American Housing Assistance and Self-Determination Act of 1986 (NAHASDA).
